The South Elgin Fire Department was started back in 1925.
At the time, the fire department was comprised entirely of volunteers. In 1953,
the South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection district was formed to provide
fire protection for the Village of South Elgin and the surrounding
unincorporated South Elgin area. All of South Elgin’s firefighters have gone
through certified training and have had many hours of hands-on training. All of South Elgin’s full-time firefighters are certified
paramedics and almost half of the part-time on-call firefighters are certified
as well. Certifications and training ensure that South Elgin’s firefighters are
